Dr. Edward J. Septimus

Dr. Ed Septimus received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 1972. Dr. Septimus went on to complete his postgraduate training in internal medicine and infectious diseases at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is board certified in both internal medicine and infectious diseases.
His current position is Medical Director Infection Prevention and Epidemiology Clinical Services Group HCA Healthcare System. Previously was medical director of infectious diseases and employee health at Memorial Hermann Healthcare System until November 2005. He finished a 3 year term on the Board of Directors of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) in 2009, and is on the IDSA Antimicrobial Resistance Committee, the SHEA Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, and the IDSA Quality Measurement.
Dr. Merrill Biel
Ear Nose And Throat Specialtycare Of Minnesota
Dr. Merrill Biel is an Otolaryngologist - Head and Neck Surgical Oncologist at Ear, Nose and Throat Specialty Care of Minnesota and Medical Director of Head and Neck Oncology at the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He is a Professor in the Departments of Surgery, Otolaryngology, Family Practice and in the Schools of Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Minnesota.
He has been a principal investigator on an international multi-institutional trial of photodynamic therapy in the treatment of head and neck cancer and has treated over 450 patients with head and neck cancer using PDT. He is considered a leading expert in the clinical use of photodynamic therapy for cancer treatment and is actively involved in the preclinical and clinical evaluation of new photosensitizers for the treatment of head and neck cancers.
